Membership Information:
ECTA Membership is on a rolling basis – your membership is valid for a year after joining or renewing. A letter reminding members to renew their membership is sent to all members two months before their memberhsip dues are due.
Members receive an identifying ECTA membership card along with 2 decals for their car and for their horse trailer (if appropriate) regular e-newsletters, bi-annual newsletters, important trail condition notices, landowner property usage notes; a listing of up coming events, and messages from the Executive Director. The newsletters, in addition to this website contain a listing of the Trail Stewards, Full-size folding area trail maps may be obtained on request, for trails in Hamilton, Wenham, Topsfield, West Newbury and Ipswich for $5 a piece. These maps show all publicly accessible trails. Trail information is also kept up-to-date on this web site.

ECTA Trail Cards:
Many landowners require that trail users who walk or ride across their lands are current members of ECTA. Upon joining or renewing, you will be sent a card(s) with effective dates in order for you to identify yourself as a member to such a landowner.
Appleton Farms – Trustees of Reservations (TTOR)
ECTA members who wish to use Appleton Farms trails must follow the Trustees of Reservations rules. Equestrians are welcome to ride on the Appleton Farms beautiful trails, but are REQUIRED to join TTOR and to enroll in the Green Horses program. All equestrians are required to carry current ECTA membership cards and Trustees of Reservations (“TTOR”) Green Horses cards to ride through Appleton Farms. TTOR Green Horses tags are available to all current TTOR members.
Likewise, Dog walkers are required to enroll in the Green Dogs program. ECTA hikers and cross country skiers are encouraged to join TTOR or pay a use fee.
Links to the sign up forms for TTOR membership, Green Horses and Green Dogs programs will be provided on the confirmation page that you reach once your ECTA payment is processed. Appleton Farms is a North Shore treasure. Please help us keep this special place open to horses and dogs by respecting the TTOR Green Horses and Green Dogs rules.
Myopia Hunt Club – Equestrian Permit
ECTA riders who wish to use Myopia Hunt Club trails must accept an equestrian permit application. A link to this form will be provided on the confirmation page that you reach once your ECTA payment is processed.
The trails are only open to horseback riders who are current members of the Essex County Trail Association. The Myopia Hunt Club Trails are not open to bikers, joggers, walkers, cross-country skiers, baby carriages, or motorized vehicles. Only walking and trotting are permitted on the bridle trails along the Myopia Golf Course. Elsewhere the Equestrian trails are open to walking and trotting where reasonable. Please stay on marked trails. Further, the Myopia Hunt Club cannot assume responsibilty for injuries, for theft or for the loss of property.

STEP 1 – Complete Application Form
Fill out the online application form (click below to go to the application page). We treat your information as private and confidential and we never share information.
You must read the Waiver and Release of Liability and Indemnity Agreement and accept those terms in order to be eligible for membership.
STEP 2 – Select Type of Membership
Proceed to the membership category page and select the type of membership you desire.
STEP 3 – Secure Online Checkout via PayPal
Pay for your membership via PayPal. You will be automatically transferred to the ECTA page on PayPal for secure payment. You do not need to be a member of PayPal to pay this way. You may use Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover Card or a PayPal account.
Optional STEP 4 – Extra Permits
Links to the TTOR Membership form (inc. Green Dogs and Green Horses) and to the Myopia Hunt Club Equestrian Permit will be provided on the payment confirmation page. These are optional extras for: equestrians wishing to use Appleton Farms and Myopia trails; and for equestrians and dog walkers wishing to take their dogs to Appleton Farms Grass Rides.
