ECTAthlon will be back next year!

ECTA will be taking this year off of the ECTAthlon in order to focus on a few new events coming up this season.  Please come out for our National Trails Day walk with IRWA on Saturday, June 3rd.  We will also be having a trail ride up Sagamore Hill on May 28th.  Later in the season we will be introducing a new bike/run event in Bradley Palmer… details to follow!  So, fear not, the ECTAthlon will be back!  Keep checking back in for more events updates!

2017 marks Essex County Trail Association’s 35th anniversary!  ECTA was founded in 1982, and has grown throughout the decades to encompass over 450 miles of trails throughout 6 towns in Essex County.  In honor of this milestone, we would like to call upon all avid trail users to not only renew your memberships, but also to bring one more outdoor enthusiast into the fold! With a strong membership base we hope to make it another 35 years and beyond! We cannot do it without your support! Help us celebrate our anniversary and join or renew now!

November 19 Willowdale Bike Ride

Please join ECTA board member Scott Bumpus, owner of Seaside Cycle for a 2 hour intermediate mountain bike ride around Willowdale State Forest on Saturday, November 19th from 9-11am.  We will make a few brief stops along the way to highlight some of the projects that ECTA has been instrumental in helping to accomplish in the park.   (more…)

Discover Hamilton Trail Walk, Saturday Oct. 22nd

Notice for Saturday’s Walk: The walk will be rain or shine… with a small caveat of if there is a torrential downpour it will be canceled. Please meet us promptly at 8:45am at the parking lot across from Pingree to sign in before we leave at 9am. Please dress appropriately for a potentially rainy walk.  Ticks are out and about, so we recommend tucking your pants into your socks and using bug spray. We will have light refreshments at the half way point, which will be Black Oak Farm.

Thank you all to those who were able to join us on Saturday, September 17th, for ECTA’s 12th Annual Run for the Trails 5 and 10 mile races. Results for the 5 mile race can be seen here, and the 10 mile race here.  The overall winners were John Ayers (5 miles, 31:35) and Greg Krathwohl (10 miles, 59:54).  For race winners by division, see below:

Virtual Race Series!

The Essex County Trails Association (ECTA) is pleased to announce its first ever virtual training trail running competition using the free  app!  The competition is free and is open to any runner, although only ECTA members will be eligible for a prize.  There will be prizes for each men’s and women’s age group winners. Age groups are: under 25, 25-50, over 50.  Check out our three different courses:  Appleton Farms, Willowdale, and Riverbend. (more…)
